The Tories are calling for tougher tests to be introduced in primary schools as part of an early warning system for numeracy and literacy teaching failures.

It remains to be seen if this will extend to Northern Ireland where the revised curriculum has placed priority on play and themes based approaches above the traditional teaching of numeracy and literacy.

The ending of Key Stage tests and the abolition of the 11-plus transfer test add to the withdrawal of information from parents and wider society.

If “tougher testing” is good enough for English Conservatives perhaps it may also extend to the new partners in Northern Ireland too.
